Berlin-headquartered co-living operator The Base has appointed Andreas Polter as vice president real estate, as of early December.

The graduate real estate business economist and member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) will be responsible for the acquisition of new properties across Germany's top seven locations and in selected European top cities.

According to The Base, he will focus on classic rental and lease agreements as well as on the purchase review of existing and development properties for the new The Base concept.

Polter was most recently a partner at Cushman & Wakefield, where he headed the residential portfolio investment team. From 2011 to 2017 he worked as a team leader in the residential valuation team at CBRE, after a five-year spell at JLL.

In total, he has more than 15 years of experience in the transaction and valuation of residential portfolios and micro-apartments as well as in the strategic consultancy on large-volume individual and portfolio transactions.

Florian Färber, founder and CEO of The Base, said: 'Fast and efficient access to real estate is key in fulfilling our vision to combat urban loneliness. Andreas Polter combines an exceptional track record and network in real estate with the entrepreneurial will to reshape the industry with innovative concepts.

'This combination is very rare and therefore I am deeply convinced that Andreas is the missing piece to continue our rapid expansion.'

The Base, a Germany-based co-living operator, was founded in 2019. It's first property with around 320 apartments is set to launch in Berlin-Pankow in the first half of 2021, with the firm targeting some 5,000 units by 2025.
